Cleaning Wax From Jars

what you will need:

  1. Pot of warm water

  2. Rubbing Alcohol (70-91% proof)

  3. Gloves (optional)

  4. Butter Knife or Metal Spatula

  5. Paper Towels

  6. Rag

Warm a small pot water about 3 inches deep. Once the pot starts to steam (do not let it boil), place the glass container in the pot and let it sit until the wax is fully melted. Make sure the water level isn’t too high. Container should be stable not floating.

An alternate method to melting wax: Warm water in a tea kettle or microwave, pour into glass container and let it sit until wax floats to the top.

Use paper towels and wipe out the remaining soot and wax debris.

Once the remaining wax has liquified, remove from warm water and toss the old wax away.

To remove the wick, use the butter knife or metal spatula to scrape up the adhesive sticker. If the warm water wasn’t enough, pour enough rubbing alcohol to cover the tab and let it sit for 5 mins.

Once the the jar is clear of soot and wax debris, use a rag with a bit of rubbing alcohol to remove any streaks.
